Progressive Glasses — One Pair for Every Distance

If you're over 40 and find yourself holding your phone further away to read or switching between two pairs of glasses — one for distance, one for reading — it might be time for progressive lenses. And progressive glasses don't have to look frumpy or complicated anymore.

At ChashmaLab, we offer progressive (multifocal) glasses in modern frames so you get clear vision at every distance without a visible bifocal line.

What Are Progressive Lenses?

Progressive lenses, also called multifocal or no-line bifocal lenses, have three distinct vision zones built into a single lens:

  • Top portion — for distance vision (driving, watching TV)
  • Middle portion — for intermediate distances (computer screen, dashboard)
  • Bottom portion — for near vision (reading, phone)

Unlike traditional bifocals, there's no visible line. The transition is smooth and seamless.

Who Needs Progressive Glasses?

Anyone experiencing presbyopia — the natural age-related difficulty in focusing on close objects. It typically starts in the early 40s and progresses gradually. Common signs include:

  • Needing more light to read comfortably
  • Holding reading material at arm's length
  • Headaches after reading or close-up work
  • Blurry near vision, especially in the evening

Choosing the Right Frame for Progressive Lenses

Frame selection matters more with progressive lenses than with regular glasses. The lens needs adequate vertical height to fit all three vision zones. Rectangular or slightly rounded frames with a minimum of 28–30mm vertical depth work best. Very narrow or rimless frames may not be suitable.

Our optical team at ChashmaLab can guide you on compatible frames during consultation.

The Adjustment Period

First-time progressive lens wearers usually need 1–2 weeks to adjust. Some mild distortion in peripheral vision is normal initially. Moving your head (rather than just your eyes) to look at different zones speeds up adaptation.
